Bone Graft Applications

In case of missing teeth, implant surgery becomes important, especially if bone resorption is evident in the area where the missing teeth are located. Osteoporosis refers to the bone tissue that the jawbone loses over time. This means that there is not enough bone tissue in the area where the implant will be placed.

If resorption (bone resorption) is evident and there is not enough bone tissue in the area where the implant will be placed, surgeons create the appropriate environment required for the implant with bone grafts taken from different regions. This is often done with bone graft taken from the patient’s own body or bone grafts obtained from other sources. Bone grafting is performed to replace the missing bone tissue and create an environment in which the implant can be firmly integrated.

After the bone grafting procedure, it is necessary for the bone tissue to heal, which is necessary for implant surgery. This healing process can usually take 3 to 6 months. During this period, the patient’s health condition and the suitability of the bone tissue are regularly checked. As a result of the checks, after it is determined that the implant can be placed successfully and the structure that will replace the patient’s missing teeth can be built, the implant surgery procedure is started.
